Using your WOW products! - Mixed Media Background Tutorial

Hi Elisa here with my first blog post for WOW!!

Here is the layout I created for my blog post, as you can tell I love lots of bright colour and I must admit I have a thing for watercolours at the moment.

I fell in love with these gorgeous  WOW flower corners when I first saw them. I had the thought to use them to frame a photo in a different way and to draw attention to the photo.

I thought I might share how I created the background to the layout. I started with Summer Fresh AltaMATZ and some modelling paste which I scraped over the top of the AltaMATZ with an old credit card or rewards card.

I spread it quite thin over the centre of my layout and let it dry.

Once completely dry spray water liberally over the area you want your watercolour background and over the modelling paste. I use a heavy cardstock base (Coredinations brand) for my mixed media layouts, it can take a lot of water and not bend.

Now you can either spray directly onto your watercolour palette as I did and tip onto your page or use a paintbrush to gather some colour off your paints and add to a container with water and then tip it onto your page.

Move your page from side to side, add more colour if you like it brighter. Let your first colour dry a little and then add your other colours. Move your page around to ensure the colour spreads evenly (or not) over the modelling paste background. You can also use extra water in a spray bottle to disperse the colour on your page to achieve your desired look.

Using a fan brush loaded with colour tap gently on the end to add controlled splashes and drips of colour where desired. I also added at this stage a bit of black watercolour to my page.

As I was letting that dry, I painted or inked my chosen chipboard in black and then when that was dry I highlighted the flowers on the chipboard with Pebeo Prisme Fantasy Paint (Moonstone). I really love this paint, you can make the most gorgeous magical effects including opalescent, opaque, textured honeycomb on many different surfaces including chipboard!!

While my chipboard was drying I went back to my layout to complete the rest. I used a plate from the cupboard to draw circles on my page with a Black Sharpie Paint Marker, moving it slightly each time. I then grabbed my trusty grid texture stamp (Kaisercraft) and stamped around the circles and on the sides.

I then used a silver Montana Paint Marker to add silver dots on the sides, again trying to draw the eye towards the centre of the page.

After adding black thread under my photo and sticking the photo down, I added my other accents to the page. The chipboard, sequins, plasterers tape.

I moved the title around a little and finally settled on a central position.

Thanks for stopping by the blog, hope you enjoyed the tutorial, I look forward to seeing you around the world of WOW.

Don't forget to check out the Website for products and stockists and the new WOW Creations Facebook page. I would love to see your creations on there using all the gorgeous WOW products.

Sandra W's First Share

Hello Everyone!
Sandra Wallace here with my very first blog post for WOW.
I was very excited to receive my box of goodness from Suzanne and couldn't wait to get started!
My first layout I created was a layout for the

Kraft Plus October "Inspired by Nature" Challenge.

*This layout has been removed for publication*

were PERFECT additions to my layout.
All I had to do was give them a light touch up with some brown ink
to make them standout from the page a bit
**********************************

The next WOW layout I created was for the Triple Treat Challenge
and the theme Christmas!

This is a photo of my sister's gorgeous family for their first Christmas.
I "de-constructed" the chipboard pieces.
It is something I do a lot.
I added the "1st" from the
1st Birthday word
I also used the 4in1 Altamatz, using the corner with the squares to create a bit of texture for the background :-)

*****************************************

The next layout I created was a lot of fun!
The WOW Triangles (links below) were PERFECT for this layout and the photos.
I thought I might share with you a quick and basic step by step on how I created it.

*This layout has been removed for publication*

The first thing I did was create a "cross" with some washi tape and a piece of serviette
and then stencilled using the 4in1 Altamatz and a texture paste and paint mixture

then dabbed some gesso over it once it was dry, just to tone down all that yellow!

While I had the sponge nice and wet with the gesso I also dabbed some on the
WOW Messy Triangles (each a different size)
Thick
and Large

I then added some stamping on the background and some paint splats rubons.

Added the photos, triangles, flowers , cotton and flairs and a title.

and my layout is done!

Thank you for joining me, I look forward to sharing more creations with you soon.

And don't forget that WOW has a NEW Facebook GROUP!!
It is called WOW Creations.
A Friendly place where  YOU can share with us what you have been creating with WOW!
We would LOVE to see what you have been up to :-)

That's it from me for now.
Take care of you
x

Hello Lovelies

Howdy Bloggers ,Lisa Here with fun WOW update .
I've been away scrapping recently with the lovely Suzanne from WOW
and a few of the incredibly creative Design Team members.
Each year, the fabulous Sandra from Scrapbooking Delights in Dapto, creates an abundant array of seriously awesome challenges, and one particular challenge was to incorporate these coooooool Moroccan pieces into a layout/canvas/whatever.
This is what I created for the challenge.
I started with a canvas board and using glue, secured the chippy pieces and allowed drying time.
Then a little basic painting in pink, orange and a little lemon acrylic.
I've then added some large torn washi pages, and a few pieces of decorative serviettes adhered with matt medium ,plasterers tape, music sheets ....
and dribbled over a little black house paint to finish the background

Before the black house paint process,
I highlighted the chipboard pieces with a little Inca Gold,in Gold and Pink.
*note to self , get more colours of that stuff..it works a treat enhancing any WOW product.
If you want any of these wonderful Moroccan pieces, make sure you ask you local stockist to send an email to Suzanne to get them in store...
I have creative visions of a large frame or door using them.. swoon !!!

This piece below uses a similar process to the above painting process ,
using these rad WOW cogs and some funky fun mixed media elements .

Thanks for dropping by bloggers,
I hope I have inspired you a little to go paint over your chippy
and to make it part of your background, instead of an embellishment.

A Perfect Page....

I had the most amazing time hanging out with these gals at a Hunter Valley retreat in August. We laughed and cried and shared so many stories and poignant moments that it was hard to do it justice on a scrapbook layout. I spent longer than I normally would on this page and, to me, it shows.

I used a technique on the background learnt from the gorgeous Naomi Cox, with some added stencil work using my new release Boot Stencil and another current fave, Lighthouse Flourish.
The page is also embellished with these chippies - cogs, barbed wire, love this, mini people, a zig-zag arrow, some Prima doodads, a cut file, and Dymo for the captions. I used American Crafts foam words for the title and typed out a long and heartfelt story which is hidden in the envelope.

I poured my heart and soul into this page and I love it so much because it really does completely and perfectly represent my experience at this retreat.
This, to me, is why I scrapbook.

I hope you find some inspiration in this post and have some awesome fun playing with your WoW products. Please come and share your work with us in our new Facebook Group, we love to see what you're creating with WoW!

Thanks for coming by
